Mirage Prefinished Wood Flooring

Image of Mirage Prefinished Wood FlooringMirage is the cream of the crop in prefinished solid and engineered hardwood floors. Why? Mirage represents a strong balance of quality, beauty, and reputation. In July 2003, in its "Survey 2003: What the retailers think," trade magazine Floor Focus publicly declared what everyone in the industry knows-Mirage products are the best on the market.

Mirage is known as the best because of its high quality assurance standards, which are visible in both their P7 Manufacturing Process and its Micro-V Joint construction.

The P7 Manufacturing Process

The superiority of Mirage flooring is due to their exclusive P7 manufacturing process, an extremely thorough process that combines state-of-the-art technology with the experience of a highly skilled staff.

Superior Stability - The drying process used for Mirage wood exceeds industry standards. The wood is verified before processing and stored at carefully controlled temperature and humidity levels.

Precision Cut - Wood strips are always perfectly straight and consistent in width and length for a refined look and superior durability.

A Perfect Fit of Tongue and Groove - The tongue and groove fit perfectly on all four sides of each strip, ensuring unmatched uniformity and easier installation while saving you time and effort.

Even Sanding - First, strips are assembled into a panel, and then they are sanded with a high-precision sander for flawless, perfectly even results. This high-precision process makes it possible to achieve the smallest, most uniform micro-V joint in the industry.

Uniform Coloring - The entire strip surface, including micro-V joints, is evenly stained, and then brushed and cured in hot air and ultraviolet light to ensure uniform coloring in each and every box of flooring.

High Performance Finish - Mirage's ALUMIX® Ultra high performance residential finishing system is 3 to 5 times more resistant to wear than competitive finishes. An aluminum oxide compound suspended in ultraviolet-cured polyurethane provides its exceptional durability. ALUMIX® Ultra creates a surface resistant to bacteria, microbes, and mold. For some natural wood species, UV PROTECTION™ slows and reduces the sun-shading effect that causes wood to darken and yellow over time (Mirage was the first manufacturer to introduce this technology, in July 2001).

Integrated Quality Assurance - Rigorous quality control and every step of manufacturing is your guarantee that every wood strip in every box is of the highest quality.

The Micro-V Joint

Image of Mirage Micro V JointStrips come together to form what is known as a micro-V joint. The Mirage micro-V joint is the smallest and most uniform in the industry. In short, it is perfect.

On all four sides of each strip, the micro-V joint (called micron-V in the Engineered collection) facilitates maintenance and prolongs the life of Mirage floors. It is also stained and finished for optimum performance.

A micro-V joint hides imperfections in the subfloor and prevents premature wear on strip edges. It also makes it easer to move furniture without damaging the wood or the finish. However, if a joint is too deep, dirt and dust will accumulate in it, making maintenance and refinishing difficult.

In general, the more precise the milling, the more shallow the V-joint will be. The best sanding techniques produce an extremely small micro-V joint. Assemble a few strips to verify the precision and uniformity of the joints.

Wood Grades

Grading is a means of distinguishing between variations in the wood's natural coloring. It refers only to the visual aspect and has no bearing on quality. In fact, strips manufactured from the same piece of wood, with the same care, and according to the same quality standards can be graded differently at the end of the line solely due to their appearance. Contact Scherer Brothers for more information on wood grades for the Mirage Collection in which you are interested.

Select & Better Grade - The most uniform strips with only subtle natural variations in color.

Exclusive Grade - A mixed selection of strips composed of about 75% Select & Better grade and 25% Traditional grade.

Traditional Grade - Strips with more distinct natural color variations and small, healthy knots for a more rustic appearance.

The following are examples of grading and are not meant to be exact representations of grading for all species and finishes.
