Wood Decking
Besides our selection of premium composite decking materials, Scherer Brothers Lumber Company also offers a large selection of natural wood decking materials. When maintained properly, wood decking offers a natural beauty not found in composite decking products.
Ironwoods Ipé (Brazilian Walnut)
Our Ipé is clear select, 100% clear all-heart grade only. Probably the most durable of all wood decking materials, Ipé has been used in extreme applications such as the Atlantic City and Duluth Minnesota boardwalks. Where most wood decking materials have a life span of about 15 years, Ipé has been known to last well over 25 years in heavy commercial applications. It is so durable that it has earned these ratings:
- Termite Resistance (U.S. Naval Lab) - Over 15 years in the ground without attack by termites
- Durability (U.S. Forest Product Lab) - 25 years plus without chemical treatments or coatings
- Fire Resistance (National Fire Protection Code) - Class A rating; similar to that of concrete or steel
Exoro Tiger
Natural Resistance - Tiger is naturally resistant to insects and fungus. It does not require dangerous chemicals to protect the integrity of the wood. Environmentally safe UV sealant can be used to preserve natural color.
Kiln Dried - Dried to 8% +/- 3SD which reduces warping, shrinkage and splitting.
Graded - Graded clear with natural surface defects (no knots that will split, check and fall out). Board straightness within 3/8 inch per 8-foot length.
Fire Rating - Type 1 NFPA
Warranty - A 25-year limited warranty against insect damage and rot.
Product Availability - Deck boards are 1" x 4", 1" x 6", 1-1/4" x 4", and 1-1/4" x 6" S4S with profiled edges and relieved backs. Matching railing, stepping and fascia products are also available.
Exoro Tiger is a special order product and can be available within one week. Exoro Tiger is not stocked at any of our yards.
